For candidates who have never been through a Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES)-sanctioned police academy, the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department offers academy sponsorship, where selected candidates will be paid while attending the police academy and have their academy costs paid for.

For candidates currently enrolled in an MCOLES-sanctioned police academy, the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department may reimburse academy costs and pay the candidate a base wage to complete the police academy.
